This graphic from Hurun Report’s recently published “The Chinese Luxury Traveler 2014,” breaks down in-app WeChat usage among affluent Chinese travelers (surveyed from 204 respondents who have spent over $25K on one trip in the last 3 years).

The data confirms WeChat’s takeover of China smartphone usage with 80% of those surveyed using Tencent’s micromessaging app throughout the day. In terms of in-app usage, the friend circle feature (WeChat Moments) made up the bulk of activity (24%) which reinforces the notion that WeChat is capturing social sharing and engagement away from Weibo, as well as encroaching on traditional microblogging behaviors like consuming news (16%).
